Sizes can differ between designers, countries and garment shapes. Use this guide to take your measurements, then compare them with the information for the specific product. A generic conversion cannot guarantee the fit of every brand.

Take your body measurements

Use a flexible tape measure over light clothing. Stand naturally, keep the tape level and measure without pulling it tight. Record the results in centimetres.

Measurement How to measure
Bust Around the fullest part of the bust, with the tape level across the back.
Waist Around the natural waist, keeping the abdomen relaxed.
Hips Around the fullest part of the hips and seat, with feet together.
Inside leg From the top of the inside leg to the desired trouser hem. Consider the shoes you plan to wear.
Foot length Standing with weight on the foot, measure from the back of the heel to the longest toe. Measure both feet and note the longer result.

Body measurements are not garment measurements

A body measurement describes you; a garment measurement describes the piece. They are not directly interchangeable. A garment needs space for movement unless its construction is designed to stretch.

If a product gives a flat measurement, check what was measured. A flat chest width is not the same number as a chest circumference. Compare like-for-like with a similar garment you already own, without stretching it.

Read the size system

  • Letter sizes: XS, S, M and L are not identical across all designers.
  • Country sizes: Italian, French, UK, US and Brazilian numbering may differ. Check the system stated for the product rather than assuming a number is Portuguese sizing.
  • Denim: some brands use waist-based numbers. Check the fit, rise, length and stretch as well as the label.
  • Shoes and rings: use the brand's own chart and stated measurement method. Do not apply a clothing conversion to another product category.

Before you choose

Read the fit notes, composition, closure and available product measurements. For dresses, check the bust, waist, hips and length; for trousers, check the rise and inside leg; for swimwear, consider torso length and coverage.

When a brand chart or measurement is not available, contact us with the product link, your measurements and usual size. We do not substitute an unverified universal chart for product-specific information.
