How to Choose a Designer Bag
Choose a bag for what you need to carry and how you want to wear it. Shape and colour matter, but capacity, opening and strap options often decide whether it works for your day.
Start with your essentials
List the items you normally carry: phone, keys, wallet, glasses and anything else you need. Compare their sizes with the bag's dimensions, allowing for the lining, shape and opening. External dimensions do not guarantee that every object will fit.
Check five details
- Capacity: a compact clutch and an everyday tote meet different needs. Check interior compartments, not only the outside shape.
- Opening: compare zip, magnetic or other closures and how easily you can reach the contents.
- Straps: check whether a strap is removable or adjustable and whether its length is provided. A removable strap is not automatically adjustable.
- Material: distinguish leather, textile and woven plant fibres. Ask about care for the actual material.
- Structure: consider whether you want a firm shape or a softer bag that follows the contents.
